Plan around the school year
Two free tools on every district page, and two answers for the whole country.
What you get, and why it matters
Not just the holidays.
Staff days, early releases and single days off are the ones that catch parents out. Every page lists them next to the breaks, for all 1013 districts — so nothing turns up as a surprise on a Monday morning.
Questions parents ask us
Why do two districts down the road from each other break on different weeks?
Because each local board sets its own calendar within its state’s rules. Across the 1013 districts we read, spring break starts in 9 different weeks, and the last day for students spreads over 52 days. Neither district is doing anything unusual.
How do I know these dates are still right?
Every page carries the day we read it and a link to the page we read it from. If a board amended its calendar after that, the district calendar itself is the one to believe — and we would rather you check us than trust us.
Can I put these dates in my phone?
Yes. Every district page offers its whole year as a calendar file: breaks, holidays, staff days and early releases, each entry carrying the district’s own wording.
My district is not here. Why?
Our lists hold 7,557 districts, and we publish the 1,013 districts whose calendar we could read. Of the rest, 996 answer with a calendar that is empty for this school year; 302 post too few dates to answer a question with; 172 were read but set aside, because their calendar did not pass our checks; 573 publish through a feed whose host asks automated readers to stay away, and we honor that; 2,095 could not be reached from our network, or refused our reader; 946 have no calendar a machine can read — most publish a PDF poster; and 1,460 have no website address in our list yet. A district missing from our lists altogether is one we have not found yet. None of this is a judgment about the district.
Do you ever estimate a date?
No. Where a district has not published something, the page says so. A projected date looks exactly like a read one, and that is the whole reason this site exists.
