Corrections
Every rule we corrected in the dates and labels on this site, newest first, with one district or page that showed it: what the page said, what it said after the fix, why it was wrong, the rule we changed so that every district read the same way was corrected with it, and how many districts or pages that rule changed, where we counted it.

October 13, 2026 · Fall break by state
- What
- How many districts have a fall break
- Before
- “week of October 12–16 for 119 of the 233 districts that list one (51%) … Of the 989 districts we read, 233 list a fall break.”
- After the fix
- “week of October 12–16 for 126 of the 252 districts that have one (50%) … Of the 989 districts we read, 252 have a fall break: 233 call it that; the other 19 are 3 or more school days off in a row.”
- Why it was wrong
- Only closures the district names for the fall were counted, so 19 districts that close for three to five school days in the fall had no fall break on this page.
- Rule changed
- A national page says how many of the districts we read have a fall break, and how many of those the district itself calls fall break.
- Changed by this rule

October 13, 2026 · Fall break in Pennsylvania
- What
- How many districts have a fall break
- Before
- “Only one of the 75 Pennsylvania districts we read lists a fall break in 2026: School District of Lancaster (October 9–13).”
- After the fix
- “Only 2 of the 75 Pennsylvania districts we read have a fall break in 2026: Berwick Area (September 30 to October 2) and School District of Lancaster (October 9–13). Berwick Area does not call it fall break: it is 3 school days off in a row.”
- Why it was wrong
- Berwick Area closes its schools from Wednesday, September 30 to Friday, October 2 (“Schools Closed”). With only named fall breaks counted, the page left it out, and its words said “lists”, which fits only a break the district names.
- Rule changed
- A page that counts fall breaks says “have a fall break”, and says which of them the district does not call fall break. A fall break is a closure the district calls fall or autumn break, or, under any name, a closure for all students of three or more school days in a row starting between September 15 and November 15, outside Thanksgiving week.
- Changed by this rule
- 5 state pages that give the share (California, Illinois, Kansas, Ohio, Pennsylvania) and 7 state fall break pages with a new line “Called fall break by the district”

- What
- Fall break
- Before
- “No school”, October 12–16, 2026, 5 school days, in the district’s words “Staff & Student Holiday”, and no fall break anywhere on the page.
- After the fix
- “Fall break”, October 12–16, 5 school days, still in the district’s own words “Staff & Student Holiday”; the date strip reads “Fall break + 1 more day off, October 12–19”.
- Why it was wrong
- On October 9 we began to count as a fall break only a closure the district itself names for the fall, so a whole week with no school for any student, which the district calls a student holiday, was shown as an ordinary day off.
- Rule changed
- A fall break is a closure the district calls fall or autumn break, or, under any name, a closure for all students of three or more school days in a row starting between September 15 and November 15, outside Thanksgiving week; Columbus Day, Veterans Day and Election Day do not count toward the three. A Friday and a Monday off are still two days off, not a fall break.

October 9, 2026 · Florham Park, New Jersey
- What
- Source of the dates
- Before
- Dates read from hanoverpark.org, the site of the Hanover Park Regional High School District, and shown as the Florham Park School District’s own on an indexed page: 11 dates, among them a last day of school on June 21 and graduation on June 23, 2027.
- After the fix
- The district is removed until a calendar published by the Florham Park School District itself is available; its address redirects to the New Jersey page.
- Why it was wrong
- The address in our list of New Jersey districts was the site of another school district, the grades 9–12 district that Florham Park’s high-school students attend. Its calendar has a freshman day, AP testing, homecoming and graduation, which a K–8 district does not hold.
- Rule changed
- A calendar that is not the district’s own, including another school district’s, is not published, and a site whose name matches another district in our state list, and not the district itself, is checked by hand before it is published.
- Changed by this rule

October 9, 2026 · Fall break in Pennsylvania
- What
- How many districts list a fall break
- Before
- “Only 4 of the 75 Pennsylvania districts we read list a fall break”, while three of the four, Berwick Area (“Schools Closed”), Cumberland Valley and Penn Manor (“No School”), do not call those days a fall break.
- After the fix
- “Only 1 of the 75 Pennsylvania districts we read lists a fall break in 2026: School District of Lancaster (October 9–13).”
- Why it was wrong
- A closure in the fall made only of general words, often a Friday and a Monday or two separate entries, was named a fall break by its place in the year.
- Rule changed
- A fall break is a closure the district itself names for the fall (fall, autumn, Fall Intersession). Other days off in the fall keep the district’s words and the label “No school”.

- What
- Spring break and the end of the calendar
- Before
- Spring break March 24–25, from “No School/Weather Make-up Day”, and a partial calendar whose “published dates end on March 25, 2027”.
- After the fix
- Read again on October 9, 2026: spring break March 26–29 (“No School (Spring Break)”), last day of school June 3, 2027; the calendar is complete.
- Why it was wrong
- Our reader of WordPress calendars stopped after 30 pages of 50 events. Penn Manor’s feed, which carries the district’s and its schools’ sports calendars, is longer, so nothing after March 25 was read, and the partial-calendar notice said the district’s dates ended there.
- Rule changed
- A feed is read to its last page; a feed longer than our page limit is a failed read and keeps the earlier dates. A partial calendar says where the calendar we read ends, not where the district’s dates end.
- Changed by this rule
- 1 district read again (no other WordPress feed reached the limit); the notice wording changed on all 87 partial calendars (48 of them in search results)

- What
- Spring break

- March 25–30, 4 school days, including “Spring Break - No School (Snow Makeup #3)” on March 25 and “(Snow Makeup #4)” on March 30.
- After the fix
- Spring break March 26–29, 2 school days; March 25 and March 30 are their own “No school” rows, in the district’s words.
- Why it was wrong
- Days the district may use to make up snow closures were joined to the break next to them, and counted as days of the break.
- Rule changed
- A day the district may turn into a school day (a snow, weather or emergency make-up day, “if needed”) is never part of a break: it keeps its own row, the break’s dates and the date strip leave it out, and a break the district dates across it is cut there.

- After the fix
- “Early release”: students are in school until 11:40.
- Why it was wrong
- A dismissal time counted as an early release only when it was written with “pm”.

- Why it was wrong
- Our closure words did not include “all sites closed”, and a named holiday such as “Good Friday Holiday” or “Lincoln’s Birthday Holiday” was read only when the word “Holiday” came first.
- Rule changed
- “All sites closed” is a closure, and a named holiday followed by “Holiday” (Good Friday, Lincoln’s Birthday, Cesar Chavez, a local holiday, a student and teacher holiday) is a day off.

- Why it was wrong
- Any “act” in the wording was read as the ACT test, including ACT preparation classes, “Literacy/Math Act” and “One-Act Play”.
- Rule changed

- What
- October 12
- Before
- “Testing”, from the district’s “Act 80 Day - No School”: not counted as a day off, “Next time off” showed November 10, and the Columbus Day page listed the district as “not in the calendar we read”.
- After the fix
- “No school”, counted in “School days off this year”; “Next time off” shows October 12 as of the October 8 read, and the Columbus Day page lists the district as closed.
- Why it was wrong
- Our test label matched “ACT” in “Act 80”, the Pennsylvania law under which districts hold days without students, and a test, quarter-end or conference label won over the district’s own words “No School”.
- Rule changed
- An entry whose own words say there is no school, no students or classes, or that schools, all sites or the district are closed for the whole day, is a day off, whatever milestone it also names. A part day (afternoon, half day, a dismissal time) stays an early release; a closure for some grades or schools stays theirs.

- Before

- After the fix
- “147 districts read on October 8, 2026”, “read from its own calendar on Oct 8”, “Read on October 8, 2026” in the footer and October 8, 2026 as the page date.
- Why it was wrong
- Every page that counts districts printed the site’s snapshot date, the earliest read of any district in our set. Dallas School District, Pennsylvania, a district with no page, held it at September 29: its robots.txt forbids the address our reader requests (it has a query string), so it was not read again, and a second robots.txt check, run on the address without the query, had cleared it, so its September 29 dates stayed in the set.
- Rule changed
- A page that counts districts gives the days those districts were read: one day, or the first and the last. robots.txt is checked against the full address our reader requests, query string included, and a source it forbids is neither published nor kept from an earlier read. The site’s snapshot date is the earliest read of the districts that have a page.
- Changed by this rule

- After the fix
- The district is removed until a calendar published by the district itself is available.
- Why it was wrong
- The address in our list of Florida districts was the teachers’ union site. Its calendar lists the district’s dates next to union events such as “Members Only Townhall Webinar” and “Summer Rep Training”.
- Rule changed
- A calendar read from a site that is not the district’s own, such as a teachers’ union or a city, is not published, and it stays out when calendars are read again.

- March 18–19, 2027, from the entry “No School”, while the district’s own “Spring Break”, April 5–9, was in the same table.
- After the fix
- April 5–9, 2027, the district’s “Spring Break”. March 18–19 is listed as “No school”.
- Why it was wrong
- The earliest closure labeled spring break won, including a two-day “No School” and Good Friday or Easter closures.
- Rule changed
- When a district calls a closure spring break, spring recess, spring vacation or spring intersession, that is its spring break. Good Friday, Easter and other “No School” closures in the spring are days off. Without such a name, the spring break is the longest closure of March and April.

October 8, 2026 · Charleston Community Unit School District 1, Illinois
- What
- Fall break
- Before
- October 9–12, made of “End Q1/Teacher Institute-No student attendance” on Friday and “Columbus Day-NO SCHOOL” on Monday.
- After the fix
- No fall break: October 9 is a day with no school and October 12 is Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day. 13 other districts no longer show a fall break for the same reason, a separate day off next to Columbus Day: Alabaster City Schools (Alabama), Neptune City School District (New Jersey), Burkburnett Independent School District (Texas, October 12–13) and 10 more in Illinois.
- Why it was wrong
- Two separate days off, Friday and Monday, were joined into one break and named fall break by the time of year.
- Rule changed
- Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a holiday type of its own, so it is no longer joined with a different day off into a break. A Columbus Day entry that covers two school days itself is still read as a fall break.

October 8, 2026 · Cresskill Public, New Jersey
- What
- “Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day / Minimum Day for students/PM Professional Development Day for Staff Only”, October 12, 2026
- Before
- Teacher work day, no students; counted as closed on the Columbus Day page.
- After the fix
- Early release; counted as open on the Columbus Day page.
- Why it was wrong
- The words about staff development decided the label before the words “Minimum Day for students”.
- Rule changed
- An entry that names Columbus Day and a minimum day or early dismissal for students is an early release, a school day.

October 8, 2026 · Brookwood School District 167, Illinois
- What
- “Columbus Day/ Indigenous Peoples’ Day – Holiday”, October 12, 2026
- Before
- No label. On the Columbus Day page the district was “not in the calendar we read”.
- After the fix
- Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a day off; counted as closed on the Columbus Day page.
- Why it was wrong
- Columbus Day had no type of its own, and an entry that named it with “Holiday” but without “No School” got no label.
- Rule changed
- Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a holiday type of its own: an entry that names it with a word about a holiday or a closure is a day off.

- October 13–16. “Columbus Day Holiday” on Monday, October 12, had no label, and the district was not counted as closed that day.
- After the fix
- Fall break and one more day off, October 9–16: Columbus Day is part of the break, and the teacher day with no students on October 9 joins it.

- What
- Time zone in the calendar files (.ics)
- Before
- “X-WR-TIMEZONE:America/New_York” in every district’s calendar file, including those of Texas, California and Alaska.
- After the fix
- No time zone. Every entry is a whole day (VALUE=DATE), and a whole day has no time zone.
- Why it was wrong
- One line was written for every state.
- Rule changed
- The calendar files carry no time zone for the whole calendar; an entry with a time of day would carry its state’s time zone.

- What
- Search description
- Before
- “fall break Oct 9–12”.
- After the fix
- “fall break + 2 days off Oct 8–13”, the same span as the date strip, “Fall break + 2 more days off, October 8–13”.
- Why it was wrong
- The description used the break’s own dates, while the date strip joins the days off next to the break.
- Rule changed
- The description carries the same span as the date strip.

October 8, 2026 · Lytle Independent, Texas
- What
- Longest run of school days
- Before
- “From September 8 to January 17, Lytle Independent teaches 94 school days without a break of more than a single day”, with a fall break and a winter break for some grades inside that span, and “THANKSGIVING VACATION WEEK” not read as a break.
- After the fix
- Not printed. “THANKSGIVING VACATION WEEK”, November 23–27, is a Thanksgiving break, and the calendar is marked as partial: a winter break for all grades is not published yet.
- Why it was wrong
- Closures for some grades did not stop the count, and “Thanksgiving Vacation” was not recognised.
- Rule changed
- A run of school days stops at any closure, including one for some grades. “Thanksgiving Vacation” is a Thanksgiving break.
- Changed by this rule
- not counted when it was fixed
October 8, 2026 · Toombs County, Georgia
- What
- School days off this year
- Before
- “10 across 3 separate closures”, with “no day off at all in August and December” and “Only two long windows in the whole year”.
- After the fix
- Marked as a partial calendar: the district’s published dates end on December 18, 2026, and winter break, spring break and the last day of school are not published yet. No count or claim about the whole year.
- Why it was wrong
- The district’s published dates end in December, and the page treated them as the whole year.
- Rule changed
- A calendar is complete only with a winter break and a spring break for the whole district, a first or last day for students, and dates through April. A partial calendar makes no claim about the whole year.
- Changed by this rule
- 102 district pages (the partial calendars)
October 8, 2026 · Jenks Public, Oklahoma
- What
- Spring break
- Before
- March 15–19, and the one-day “April Break - No School” on April 23 was also shown as spring break.
- After the fix
- Spring break and one more day off, March 12–19: the parent-teacher conference day with no school on March 12 is shown with the break. April 23 is a day with no school.
- Why it was wrong
- A one-day break was named spring break by its date, and a day off right before the break was shown apart from it.
- Rule changed
- A break of one school day without the word “spring” is a day off, not spring break. A day off next to a break is shown with the break.
- Changed by this rule
- not counted when it was fixed
October 8, 2026 · School District of Manatee County, Florida
- What
- First day of school
- Before
- Not found. The five teacher days before it, August 3–7, were counted as days at home (“The first stretch at home is August 3–7”).
- After the fix
- August 10, 2026, from “Students Back to School”. August 3–7 are teacher work days before the school year.
- Why it was wrong
- “Students Back to School” was read as students coming back from a break.
- Rule changed
- “Students Back to School” or “Students Return” from July to September is the first day of school.
- Changed by this rule
- not counted when it was fixed
October 8, 2026 · New Castle Community School Corporation, Indiana
- What
- Comparison with other Indiana districts
- Before
- “Among the most interrupted calendars in Indiana”, for 28 school days off, which was the middle value of the seven Indiana districts compared.
- After the fix
- Not printed.
- Why it was wrong
- The sentence was printed for any of the top four places, whatever the number of days.
- Rule changed
- Comparison words come from the numbers: a place in the top quarter and a count above the middle value. The comparison paragraphs were removed from district pages on the same day; extremes are now listed as data.

- What
- “1st Semester Finals - Math / Science”, December 18, 2026, and three other semester finals
- Before
- End of semester.
- After the fix
- Testing.
- Why it was wrong
- The word “Semester” made a finals day the end of the semester.
- Rule changed
- Semester finals and exams are testing, not a term boundary.
- Changed by this rule

October 8, 2026 · New Castle Community School Corporation, Indiana
- What
- “Swimming & Diving (Boys V) - Eastern Crossroads Conference”, January 16, 2027, and “Track & Field Boys - Eastern Crossroads Conference”, May 13, 2027
- Before
- Parent-teacher conferences.
- After the fix
- Not listed: they are athletic meets, not dates of the school calendar.
- Why it was wrong
- The word “conference” alone made an entry a parent-teacher conference.
- Rule changed
- “Conference” is a parent-teacher conference only with words about parents, teachers or a closure. Sports and arts entries are never a conference, a test or a term date.

October 8, 2026 · Worth County, Georgia
- What
- “Winter Break - Student Holiday/Teacher Planning Day”, March 15–17, 2027
- Before
- Spring break.
- After the fix
- Mid-winter break. The district’s own “Spring Break”, April 5–9, is its spring break.
- Why it was wrong
- The time of year named a March break spring break, over the district’s own word “Winter”.
- Rule changed
- A break the district calls winter break from February to April is a mid-year winter break, never spring break.
- Changed by this rule
- not counted when it was fixed
October 8, 2026 · Stoughton Public, Massachusetts
- What
- Last day of school
- Before
- June 23, 2027 in the date strip, from the entry “Last Day/Early Release (5 Snow Days)”, while the answers lower on the same page said June 15.
- After the fix
- June 15, 2027, from “Last Day/Early Release (No Snow Days)”. June 23 is listed as “Last day, if needed”.
- Why it was wrong
- The strip took the latest entry named as a last day, including the one that applies only if five snow days are used.
- Rule changed
- The first and last day of school are the students’ day for the whole district. A day that depends on snow days, or one for teachers, one grade or one school, keeps its own label.
- Changed by this rule
- not counted when it was fixed
