Privacy

What this site stores about you, what your browser loads, and what is still visible to the company that hosts it. Short version: page views are counted with Google Analytics 4, which sets its own cookies outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland and none inside them; it is the only service outside this site that your browser contacts, and there is no advertising.

What we store about you

No account, no form, no newsletter and no comment box: nothing you type is kept unless you write to us. The one record of a visit is what Google Analytics 4 records for this site, described under Analytics, kept under a device identifier rather than a name wherever it keeps one. Our own scripts store nothing on your device; the only cookies a visit can get are the ones Google Analytics 4 sets outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, under Google’s own policy, and no advertising cookie is set anywhere.

Analytics

Page views are counted with Google Analytics 4. On every page it records the page, the referring link, the kind of browser and device and an approximate location worked out from your IP address; with the settings Google turns on by default it also records how far a page is scrolled and which links to other sites are clicked. When you press one of the buttons that add a district’s dates to a calendar, the page also records that press as an event named calendar_subscribe, with one detail of its own: which kind of button it was — webcal (Apple Calendar or Outlook), google (Google Calendar) or ics (the file). Outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland it also sets its own cookies under Google’s own privacy policy and keeps a device identifier in them: two cookies, named _ga and _ga_ followed by the property identifier, which tell one browser from another, so a second page in the same visit is not counted as a second visitor, and which expire two years after your last visit. Advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalization are refused on every page and in every country, so nothing measured here feeds advertising profiling. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the analytics storage is refused as well, by default and without asking: those visits are counted without writing anything to your device, and no device identifier is kept. We read the counts as totals per page, to see which pages are read and which are not, and never look up an individual.

What your browser loads

From this site: the page itself and the files below. Which of them a page asks for depends on the kind of page.

  • site.css — on every page: the look of the site.
  • fonts.css — on every page: names the font files, which are served from this site too.
  • font files — on every page: Plus Jakarta Sans and JetBrains Mono, both under the SIL Open Font License, from this site’s own /assets/fonts/.
  • site icon — on every page: icon.svg, favicon.ico and apple-touch-icon.png.
  • menu.js — on every page: opens and closes the Breaks and Days off menus in the header.
  • find.js — on the home page, most state pages and state break pages: narrows the list of districts as you type a name.
  • map.js — on the home page: colors the state map by the break you choose.
  • now.js — on the home page, district pages and /spring-break-this-week/: works out from your device’s own date how many days remain until the next day off and which week is this week.
  • compare.js — on most state pages: compares the two districts you pick, using the dates already on the page.
  • add.js — on district pages: shows the buttons that add the year to a phone calendar, draws the QR code on a computer and tells Google Analytics 4 which of the buttons you press.
  • qrcode.js — on district pages: the QR code library by Kazuhiko Arase, used under the MIT license; add.js calls it to draw the code.
  • print.js — on district pages: shows the Print this calendar button and opens your browser’s print dialog when you press it.

None of these scripts stores anything on your device. One of them, add.js, passes one event to Google Analytics 4 when you press a button that adds the dates to a calendar, as described under Analytics; the others send nothing anywhere: each works in your browser with data already on the page.

From outside this site, one service:

  • Google Analytics 4 — on every page: counts page views so we can see which pages are read. Your browser fetches it from www.googletagmanager.com and sends each page view to Google’s collection servers under google-analytics.com and analytics.google.com; outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland it sets its own cookies under Google’s own privacy policy; inside them it writes nothing to your device.

Nothing else is fetched from any other server — not fonts, not other scripts, not images.

That is not a promise we ask you to take on trust. The build checks every page and every stylesheet for outside loads and refuses to publish if it finds one these lists do not name, compares both lists with what the pages actually load, and the pages are served with a content security policy that tells your browser to refuse anything from anywhere else even if we made a mistake.

Pages do link to the school districts we read, because that is how you check a date against its source. A link is not a load: nothing reaches those sites until you click.

Advertising

This site carries no advertising. There is no advertising network and no space set aside for one; the page views counted with Google Analytics 4 are read only as totals per page and are not used to sell or show advertising. If advertising is ever switched on, this paragraph is rewritten by the same switch that turns it on.

What the host can see

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare records the requests it serves — the address your request came from, the page asked for, the time, and the kind of browser. We do not add anything to that record, and we do not use it to build a profile of anyone. Cloudflare’s own handling of those logs is described in its privacy documentation.

One host setting could change a page without anyone editing the site: Cloudflare’s email obfuscation rewrites any address it finds in a page and adds a small script of its own to undo that in your browser. The contact address on these pages is marked so that the setting leaves it alone.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as the California Consumer Privacy Act uses those words: the page-view counts described under Analytics are read by us as totals per page and are not used for advertising. To keep your visits out of those counts, block Google Analytics in your browser or install Google’s opt-out add-on; every page works the same without it. To ask what we hold about you — a message you have sent us, if any, and the page-view records Google Analytics 4 keeps for this site under a device identifier rather than a name, wherever it keeps one — write to the address below.

Do Not Track

Neither this site nor Google Analytics 4 as it runs here changes what it does on a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal: a visit is counted the same way either way. Outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, what it stores in your browser belongs to schooldates.org alone; inside them it stores nothing. We do not use the count to follow anyone across other sites. To keep a visit out of the count, block Google Analytics in your browser.

If you write to us

Mail to hello@schooldates.org is read by a person. It passes through Cloudflare’s email routing to the publisher’s mailbox. We keep the message and your address for as long as it takes to answer and act on it, and delete them afterwards; ask us to erase them sooner and we will. Nothing from a message is published or passed  on.

Children

This site publishes school calendars for parents. It is not directed at children and asks no one for a name or an address; we do not knowingly collect anything from children, and the page-view count described under Analytics is read only as totals per page.

If this changes

If the counter is changed or removed, or an advertising network is switched on, the paragraphs above are rewritten by the same switch that does it, and the build refuses to publish if the text and the switch disagree. There is no version of this site where the policy says one thing and the pages do another. This page was last changed on October 14, 2026.
